We thought to share some interesting facts about Australian Open Tournament with you.
Prize money
The Australian Open will offer record prize money of AUD$36.3 million in 2015. A breakdown of prize money distribution will be available prior to the tournament at ausopen.com.
Grand Slam ranking points
Players win twice as many points for a win in a Grand Slam match as they do for winning a match at the next level – ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and WTA Tour Premier (Mandatory) tournaments.
Electronic review
Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena, Margaret Court Arena, Show Courts 2 and 3 and Outside Courts 6 and 8 will utilise Hawk-Eye technology to conduct electronic reviews of disputed line calls. The Australian Open adopts the ‘three-plus-one’ electronic review system. Players will receive three incorrect challenges during each set and a fourth challenge if a set goes to a tiebreaker.
Scores and tennis action
Margaret Court Arena and Hisense Arena have new state-of-the-art screens. In 2015 there will be an upgraded giant screen in Garden Square (subject to final approval).
Practice sessions
Emirates Skydeck will provide an elevated platform over the major practice courts, allowing fans to watch their favourite players warming up. Screens and information towers will provide details on where and when the stars are practising.
Court surface
The vibrant Plexicushion surface enhances ball visibility. Trademarked as ‘Australian Open True Blue’, the courts are two-toned, allowing for greater contrast and improved depth perception.
Wilson balls
Wilson supplies more than 4000 dozen tennis balls for use during the tournament. Six new balls are used for the five-minute warm-up and the first seven games and six new balls are provided every nine games thereafter.
